The Designation of Origin (DO) Costers del Segre was established in 1986 following conversations initiated in 1983 between Mr. Jaume Siurana, director of Incavi, and Mr. Manuel Raventós Artes, general manager of Codorníu and Raimat Cellar, who considered that the excellent winemaking quality of the regions of Lleida and the local tradition required oversight by a regulatory council while also leading the promotion of the region, leveraging the evident success of Raimat wines.
Getting to know the culture of our wine is the best way to discover the lands of Lleida. A wine characterized by its quality in production and produced in charming wineries located in beautiful natural landscapes.
The Designation of Origin Costers del Segre is a mosaic composed of seven territories spread throughout the Segre river basin and the Lleida Pyrenees, with the aim of grouping and giving their own identity to winemaking in the province of Lleida.
We are facing a DO with its own well-defined characteristics that differentiate it from others, such as its privileged situation of soils with a limestone composition and a marked Mediterranean climate, which presents strong seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations, making it ideal for vine cultivation. Another characteristic feature is the high level of ingenuity and imagination of winemakers and producers in the lands of Lleida. Costers del Segre is a region with a unique and sustainable modernity and innovation applied to viticulture.
Currently, the DO Costers del Segre is subdivided into seven sub-zones: Artesa de Segre, Garrigues, Pallars, Raimat, Segrià, Urgell, and Valls de Riucorb.
